Hong Leong Asia’s (HLA) beginnings looked very different from what it is today. Its founder, Mr Kwek Hong Png, initially utilised the resources and warehouse space of his trading company to procure and store building materials. These materials played a crucial role in the extensive rebuilding and development works of post-independence Singapore, supporting the nation’s early efforts in nation-building.

In commemoration of Mr Kwek’s dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as in celebration of SG60, HLA employees recently participated in a heritage walk to iconic HDB estates such as Everton and Pinnacle@Duxton. Each estate serves as a tangible milestone in Singapore’s housing journey, reflecting the urgent need to provide affordable homes in the early years and the evolution towards sustainable, high-rise living today.

The walk offered more than a journey through Singapore’s architectural history. It provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on how Hong Leong Asia has developed alongside the nation. Participants observed how the company’s work extends beyond supplying building materials and fabricating precast components, contributing to the creation of spaces where Singaporeans live, work and play. Each estate highlighted the enduring impact of Hong Leong Asia’s contributions on everyday life across the country.
