The search is on again to find 2021’s Singaporean of the Year. In its seventh edition, the Straits Times (ST) Singaporean of the Year is an annual award given to a Singaporean individual or group that has made a positive and sustainable impact in society.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) has extended its support for the fourth consecutive year as hotel partner, to honour ordinary Singaporeans whose inspirational and extraordinary acts inspire and serve the community.
“It has been a difficult year for everyone, but also one when so many have been quietly pitching in to help others pull through the pandemic. Our aim is to showcase some of these efforts, and inspire many others to do their part to help make this a better place, and a society we can all be proud of,” said Singapore Press Holdings’ English/Malay/Tamil Media Group Editor-in-Chief and ST Editor Mr Warren Fernandez.
Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Executive Chairman Mr Kwek Leng Beng said, “The Singaporean of the Year award pays tribute to ordinary people who have pushed boundaries to become the best versions of themselves, and champions for us to emulate. This is an admirable quality and one worth celebrating.”
Nominations have opened and will close on 15 December. A panel of judges, chaired by Mr Fernandez, will help to recommend and select deserving candidates, and pick the winner, which will be announced in February next year. Last year, frontline fighters against COVID-19 were collectively named Singaporean of the Year 2020 for their tireless efforts to keep Singaporeans safe amid the pandemic.
As hotel partner, MHR will present the winner with a five-night stay at its global properties it owns and manages, while other finalists will each receive a three-night stay.
ST Singaporean of the Year is organised by The Straits Times, an English-language daily broadsheet by Singapore Press Holdings. It was launched in 2015, with finalists determined by public voting and the final decision made by a judging panel that includes ST editors.
