Secret Gig
In Liverpool

Sir Paul McCartney returned to his hometown, Liverpool on 26 July to play a secret gig for over 200 lucky fans.

After he announced the concert venue, The Cavern Club, on his Twitter account, fans queued in the early morning in hopes of watching the Beatles member perform live.

Tickets were given out on a first-come-first-served basis, and lucky fans got to watch the music legend perform a 28-song set comprising songs from his latest solo album, and classic Beatles hits such as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band and I Wanna Be Your Man.

The choice of location was also nostalgic, as The Cavern Club was where the Beatles performed in 1961. It was there that they met Mr Brian Epstein, a local record-store owner and music columnist who became their manager and secured them their first recording contract. Although the current venue is not the original club that the Beatles had played in (it was closed due to bankruptcy and eventually demolished in 1973), the current club was rebuilt on the same site in 1984 and has remained a tourist attraction.

Hard Days Night Hotel which sits adjacent to The Cavern Club, hosted Sir Paul McCartney’s band and entourage after the secret performance.

Hard Days Night General Manager Mr Stephen Rycroft said, “It was so wonderful to have Sir Paul McCartney return to Liverpool, especially in such a momentous year for the hotel and city itself. With 2018 marking ten years since Liverpool was named the Capital of Culture and Hard Days Night opening its doors to the public, it really couldn’t have come at a better time. We were thrilled to be a part of the festivities by hosting the band and the registration for all the VIPs at the hotel.”

Located on North John Street in Liverpool, England, the 110-room Hard Days Night Hotel is the only Beatles-inspired hotel in the world, and named after the Fab Four’s film, hit song, and album of the same name, A Hard Day’s Night. The album which was the band’s third, was released on 10 July 1964, and written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
