Bi-annual Olympics games held for Futsal, Badminton, Tennis and Basketball and Table Tennis.

Hong Leong Group Sports and Recreation Club (HLGSRC) held its bi-annual Olympics games for Futsal, Badminton and Tennis.

The Futsal tournament saw a total of nine teams taking part, with teams hyped up from the recent World Cup craze earlier this year. Colleagues and family members who supported the teams at the matches held at Rainforest Sports Hub were treated to non-stop futsal action for two hours.

First-time contenders M Social Singapore, representing Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (MCIL), surprised the crowd, clinching the first-place title from 2016 winners CDL. The matches ended with CDL taking second place, while Hong Leong Finance (HLF) clinched third place.

Ms Linda Goh from Team CDL (left) and first-time participant Ms Stephenie Xie representing Team MCIL were the first and second place winners for the Ladies’ Singles category respectively.

In Badminton, Team HLF emerged champions. The participants from HLF swept all three medals in Men’s Singles, and also scored a gold for Men’s Doubles, silver and bronze for Ladies’ Doubles, and gold and silver for Mixed Doubles. In second place, CDL won gold for Ladies’ Singles and Ladies’ Doubles, silver for Men’s Doubles, and bronze for Ladies’ Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. MCIL came in third in the overall ranking for the sport, with silver medal for Ladies’ Singles.


It was an impressive debut for first-time participant Ms Rena Tan, who scored a gold for Team CDL in the Ladies’ Singles category.

For Tennis, Team CDL came out tops picking up first place titles for Ladies’ Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. CDL also won silver medals for Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles. Team MCIL scored a gold for Men’s Singles, while Team HLF scored a silver for Ladies’ Singles and Men’s Doubles, and a bronze in Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles.

It was a close fight between the top two teams, with a final score of 6 baskets to 3.

CBM, which sent in three teams for the Basketball tournament, scored a gold and bronze for Team Hong Leong & Companies. The basketball games were played three a side, and it was a close fight in the finals as CBM Team 2 and CDL Team A fought to the last second, with a final score of 6 baskets to 3.

Team CDL’s Chief Revenue Officer Mr Mark Yip and Ms Jen Chua playing a Mixed Doubles match against HLF, where they scored a third place win in the category. Mr Yip also represented the team in Golf and Badminton, clinching a second and third place win for the games.

Team HLF did a clean sweep of the competition in the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles category for Table Tennis, picking up the gold, silver and bronze medals. The team also placed first for Ladies’ Singles and first and second for Mixed Doubles.

As at 22 September 2018, HLF is in first place with 68 points. CDL and Hong Leong & Companies are in second and third place with 45 and 29 points respectively. The finals for the games will be held on 14 October 2018.
