Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur recently presented Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V with an archery-themed cake for his royal celebration at the Istana Negara Kuala Lumpur.
The King, who celebrates his 48th birthday this year, had his cake themed around his favourite hobby, archery. The three-tiered chocolate cake, which weighed 100kg and stood at six metres tall was made out of fully edible ingredients.
The cake took one month to complete and was led by Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur’s Executive Pastry Chef Mr Joas Kam. It was thoughtfully crafted with royal elements infused into the design. For example, the colour yellow was used throughout the cake base to symbolise royalty, while the coat of arms of Malaysia took centre stage to represent his status as king. The Kelantan state flag sits below the coat of arms to represent the king’s hometown.
Apart from the traditional leather quiver and an archery board, a live-sized bow and arrow were also specially crafted from sugar and finished off with a coat of edible paint to resemble an actual bow and arrow. Other national elements were also incorporated, such as all 14 state flags of Malaysia, the national flag, and the national flower hibiscus.
