EACH year, Millennium Hotels and Resorts celebrates International Housekeeping Week as a way to honour the Housekeeping team, who has one of the toughest and most important jobs to ensure guest satisfaction. The event was celebrated with a special guest – Mr Howard Wu, President, North America and Global Chief Technology Officer. In addition to having a fun celebration with plenty of food and cheer to thank the Housekeeping team for their hard work, Mr Wu also crowned the hotel’s new Housekeeping King and Queen, Mr Javier Aguirre and Ms Maria Barron.

The team also prepared a presentation of their new housekeeping song, which they sing every morning to get energised. The lyrics go “From the east to the west, housekeeping is the best!”

The winning team was from the Housekeeping department led by Executive Head Housekeeper Ms Ausma Jankauskiene (far right). The team comprised (L-R) Ms Bilyana Achanova; Ms Zoritsa Mihailova; Mr Alexandru; Ms Nino Samkharadze; and Mr Nicola Andric.

Participants from the Reservations department wrapping their team member up in toilet paper for the final round, where teams had to cover a teammate in toilet paper in the fastest time.

The hotel held its inaugural Housekeeping Olympics, which pitted staff from the Housekeeping team against their colleagues from the Executive, Reservations, Kitchen, Maintenance and Sales departments.

Participants had to go through five rounds. Round 1 gave staff a glimpse of what their Housekeeping colleagues did on a daily basis, as teams had to make a bed and be judged on speed and final appearance of the made-up bed. In Round 2, teams had to toss as many toilet rolls into a bucket as possible, while Round 3 had teams doing a sweeping relay race, using a broom to guide a tennis ball around a course. Teams then had to construct two large towel swans for Round 4, and in the final round, aim to the be the first team to get one team member completely wrapped up in toilet paper.

Without a doubt, the two Housekeeping teams who participated emerged first and second place, while third place went to the Maintenance team.
