The Lowry has gone blue, as part of the nationwide campaign ‘Light It Blue’ in the UK, joining iconic landmarks to show their immense thanks and gratitude to the National Health Services (NHS) and its workers for their hard work throughout the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It has also lit up its rooms to form the letters ‘NHS’ to pay tribute to the frontline medical workers.
Though operations had to be suspended since the UK lockdown that started on 23 March 2020, the hotel is still showing its support for the NHS. In addition to donating hotel stock, such as minibar food and drinks, the property was also set up as the hub where the Manchester Hoteliers’ Association came together to prepare care packages, containing non-perishable foods, toiletries, blankets, chargers and other essential goods. The care packs were donated to NHS charities, and distributed to the homeless community. The Lowry also donated surgical gloves to the NHS.
