Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) joined more than 100 sponsors including Singapore Airlines to support Singapore Day 2019, which took place on 13 April 2019 in Shanghai, China.

MHR has been a strong supporter of Singapore Day since it first started in 2007. Organised by the Overseas Singaporean Unit, part of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Singapore Day is held each year by rotation in China, UK, US and Australia to bring Singaporeans, their families and friends together to celebrate everything Singaporean, including food, culture and its history. Previous editions of Singapore held in Shanghai, China were in 2011 and 2015.

This year’s event saw more than 3,500 Singaporeans gather at Century Park in the Pudong New Area in Shanghai. They were treated to Singapore hawker fare such as carrot cake, Indian rojak and nasi lemak by hawkers flown in for the occasion. They were also treated to performances by Singaporean artists, including MICappella and Joanna Dong.

The Singapore ministers who attended were Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Mr Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Chan Chun Sing, and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Ms Grace Fu.

An appreciation dinner was recently held in Singapore on 30 April for all partners who contributed to the success of the event, including stakeholders, hawkers, and performing artistes. Ms Fu attended the dinner, which was held at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. The appreciation dinner was sponsored by MHR.
