In China

Grand Millennium Beijing, the flagship hotel of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C) in China is celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of service excellence in the Chinese capital.

Grand Millennium Beijing was the first of M&C’s nine hotels across China to carry the “Grand Millennium” brand when it was first introduced in 2007 as the most prestigious and luxurious of M&C brands for the well-heeled international traveller.

M&C is the subsidiary of Singapore-listed property giant City Developments Limited (CDL). M&C is listed in London and has more than 130 hotels with nearly 40,000 rooms in over 10 gateway cities across the world, including Singapore, New York, London, Paris and Beijing.

Since its opening in April 2008, the 521-room hotel has quickly established itself as a landmark hotel in the Chinese capital. Centrally located in Beijing’s Central Business District area, Grand Millennium Beijing is the jewel of the modern Fortune Plaza office and the 329-room serviced apartment complex Millennium Residences Beijing Fortune Plaza which the hotel also serves.

The hotel also retains close ties with Singapore. Over the years, the luxury property has been the accommodation and venue of choice for Singapore diplomats and officials including Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean during his official visit to Beijing last year.

The hotel is also “home ground” to the Singapore Embassy for National Day celebrations, as well as a happy venue for overseas Singaporeans and friends who gathered around large TV screens there to see national achievements including the triumphant win of Singapore’s first Olympic gold medallist, Joseph Schooling.

“At that time, the Group responded to te dynamic growth in the luxury travel market and launched the ‘Grand Millennium’ brand to deliver the highest standards of luxury with unparalleled amenities and impeccable service. Our strategy to expand to Beijing was timely. Demand for hotel accommodation has remained strong and is expected to rise as China continues to grow. Hence, we remain well placed to tap on this growth,” said M&C Chairman Mr Kwek Leng Beng, who is also the Executive Chairman of Hong Leong Group Singapore.

The celebration includes special dining promotions, an award ceremony to recognise long-serving employees of the hotel, as well as series of activities for WeChat followers of the hotel to win anniversary souvenirs.

Grand Millennium Beijing has won over 200 awards including “Best Guest Experience Business Hotel” in Greater China, and supports a variety of causes including the poor and needy for seniors and children, as well as the environment.

Dato’ Gan Khai Choon, Managing Director of Hong Leong International (Hong Kong) Ltd and Chairman of Beijing Fortune Hotel Co., Ltd, gave a speech at the event.
