CDL has once again been recognised on two global sustainability benchmarks in January – the 2021 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index and Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. These awards serve as testaments to CDL’s longstanding commitment towards environmental, social and governance (ESG) integration.
Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI)
CDL was the only Singapore real estate company listed on the 2021 Bloomberg GEI for the fourth consecutive year, which recognises companies committed to transparency in gender reporting and advancing gender diversity in the workplace. This year, CDL is one of six Singapore companies to be recognised, of the total 380 companies in 44 countries and regions across 11 sectors on the index.
Tracked by investors, the GEI is a standardised reporting framework that measures the gender data of public companies committed to supporting gender equality through policy development, representation and transparency. It measures gender equality across five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline; equal pay and gender pay parity; inclusive culture; sexual harassment policies; and pro-women board.
CDL Group Chief Executive Officer Mr Sherman Kwek said, “CDL is honoured to be placed on the 2021 Bloomberg GEI for the fourth time, and we are glad to have been featured every year on the index since its inauguration in 2018. Embracing diversity and inclusion in our workforce has allowed us to tap into a wider range of viewpoints and perspectives, which has deeply enriched our corporate culture and strengthened our decision-making and performance. We will continue our efforts to advance gender equality and promote an inclusive culture at the workplace.”
Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World
CDL was also ranked the world’s top real estate company on the 2021 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, taking 40th place. Since 2010, CDL is the first and only Singapore company to be included in Global 100 – one of the world’s leading sustainability indices, for 12 consecutive years. This year, CDL also remained Singapore’s top-ranked most sustainable company in the world, a position held for the third year running.
Analysed by Corporate Knights, a Toronto-based international media and investment research firm, the Global 100 ranking is recognised as the world’s preeminent sustainability equity index and gold standard in corporate sustainability analysis. Companies listed on the 2021 Global 100 ranking were selected after a rigorous assessment of 8,080 companies, each evaluated against a set of up to 24 ESG indicators relative to their industry peers using publicly available information.
Mr Kwek said, “The social and economic challenges posed by COVID-19 have accelerated sustainability and pushed it further into the global spotlight. Our strong foundation in ESG integration forged over two decades has been vital in future-proofing our business and preparing us for new challenges and unforeseen changes.”
“We are grateful to be ranked as the world’s top real estate company and top Singapore company by Corporate Knights once again, which honours our unwavering dedication to scale up in the race to net zero and low-carbon operations. In spite of a challenging year in 2020, ESG integration has remained a fundamental aspect of our business strategy and we will continue to drive sustainability to build resilience for a greener and healthier recovery.”
