Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) has once again lent its support to The Straits Times (ST) Singaporean of the Year, joining other homegrown brands Singapore Airlines and Osim to honour the positive impact made by Singaporeans, whose extraordinary acts have bettered the community.
This year, the accolade was presented to Ms Angie Chew, for her contributions in helping those with mental health issues and the elderly. She founded the Brahm Centre in 2012 to provide free health education and other services such as befriending and counselling for seniors. Today, there are three centres, and a fourth to open later this year.
The ceremony was held at the Istana, the official residence and office of the Singapore President, and Ms Chew received the award by President Madam Halimah Yacob. Madam Halimah is also patron of the award.
As hotel partner, MHR also presented Ms Chew with a five-night stay in any of the global properties it owned and managed. The other 11 finalists were presented with a three-night stay.
Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Limited Executive Chairman Mr Kwek Leng Beng commented, “We are happy to continue our support for The Straits Times’ Singaporean of the Year award, especially since 2019 marked the Bicentennial Year of modern Singapore. Through our history, it has been the selfless contributions by ordinary Singaporeans that shaped the nation. As a homegrown brand, Millennium Hotels and Resorts is proud to honour the next wave of exceptional Singaporeans and their contributions to society.”
