In May 2019, Copthorne Slough Windsor hosted the team and coach from The South African Schools Rowing Union. The team, comprising 32 students who were selected from eight schools after South Africa’s national school championships, were in UK for the Wallingford Regatta.
After rounds of heats, the team took part in seven finals across various rowing classes. They emerged champions for the Women’s Junior Under 16 Quadruple Sculls (in which a team of four rows with one oar in each hand) and came in third place in the Women’s Junior Under 16 Eights (in which a team of eight rows with one oar per person).
Copthorne Slough Windsor has hosted the team since 2016. The rowing regatta has taken place annually since the late 1890s, and is held at Doney Lake, next to River Thames, near Eton in Southern England.
