On April 28th, The Lakefront Anchorage hosted the Anchorage Citywide Clean-Up Kick-Off Party with “plogging”, or “picking up litter while jogging”.
The event marked the official start for volunteers from the Anchorage business community to join in cleaning up the accumulated litter from the long Alaskan winter. An annual affair, the three week-long clean-up is organised in conjunction with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, and community leaders are rallied to join in this annual effort. US Senator Ms Lisa Murkowski, who is from Alaska, also returned from Washington DC where she is based, to encourage and support the volunteers.
The Lakefront Anchorage General Manager Mr Greg Beltz said, “We believe in the value of supporting community events through partnership and sponsorship, and it's heartening to see our hotel staff be a part of giving back to the community.”
