Millennium Hotels and Resorts steps up precautionary measures against COVID-19

Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) has rolled out its “We Clean. We Care. We Welcome.” campaign to its portfolio of more than 145 hotels across 80 locations. Complementing mandatory preventive measures by government authorities, the campaign establishes exhaustive standards that focuses on all touchpoints to ensure that every stay at an MHR hotel is safe, clean and comfortable, with the well-being of guests and employees safeguarded.

MHR Chief Executive Officer Mr Clarence Tan said, “It is a rigorous approach to safeguarding the health of our guests and colleagues, but a vital one in these times as we are slowly re-introducing a level of normalcy into our lives.”

Measures under the campaign are:

We clean our hotels rigorously to ensure a comfortable stay for guests by implementing 10 key hallmarks of cleanliness and safety.

We care for employees by introducing additional measures that have been undertaken to create an environment that ensures their safety and wellbeing.

We welcome our guests with the same warmth, eagerness and hospitality that MHR has always been known for. All our employees stand united and are fully committed towards overcoming these trying times together.

The Singapore properties have been awarded with SG Clean quality mark. The certification was launched by Singapore’s National Environment Agency and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board and Enterprise Singapore to recognise organisations that have met sector-specific sanitation and hygiene standards. MHR Middle East and Africa partnered with Ecolab, a global hygiene and infections solutions provider, to develop rigorous hygiene and cleanliness standards for its regional properties. Pictured above is the Housekeeping team from Grand Millennium Al Wahda in Abu Dhabi.

The 10 key hallmarks of the campaign are:

  1. Higher standards of cleanliness and hygiene – to obtain local authority hygiene accreditation where relevant.
  2. Appropriate checks on arrival for guests and employees – for example, temperature checks for all guests and/or collection of guest health declaration forms in certain jurisdictions.
  3. Disinfection kits easily available to guests and employees – sanitisers, masks and anti-bacterial wipes available at guest contact areas such as the lobby, restaurants, and meeting rooms.
  4. Frequent and regular sanitisation of high-contact points – high-contact touchpoints, such as elevator buttons and door handles, will be sanitised on a regular basis depending on frequency of use.
  5. Use of technology to enhance guest experience and safety – deploy contactless technology where possible to minimise physical contact, such as use of digital payments, ordering systems via QR codes, and contactless check-ins/check-outs.

Measures to help curb the virus spread include conducting temperature checks and ensuring that guests do not display any symptoms. Pictured is a staff from Grand Millennium Shanghai Hongqiao checking a guest’s temperature.

Frequency of cleaning and sanitisation of touchpoints in public areas have been increased. Pictured is a staff from Millennium Resort Hangzhou sanitising a door handle.
  1. Ensure higher cleanliness and hygiene standards during guest stays – mandatory use of disinfectants for sanitisation of contact points, including bedding, room furniture, and TV remotes.
  2. Enforce safe distancing measures as precaution – recommended minimum of one-metre distance for interactions between guests and/or employees
  3. Higher food safety standards – enhanced food safety protocols, deep cleaning, and individually-plated and served meals.
  4. Appropriate health and safety gear – regular use of personal protective equipment, when appropriate, to ensure health and safety of both guests and employees.
  5. Hygiene ambassadors to ensure measures are implemented – a hygiene ambassador in each hotel will ensure that employees are trained with the latest processes and procedures to enhance guest safety and comfort.
