What is MTalent Search all about?   Let me give you a quick brief on this interesting candidate selection that we at Millennium Hotels and Resorts had embarked. Unlike any other interviews normally conducted for interested applicants, we gave it a whole new different twist in order to attract various talents to join Millennium Hotels and Resorts’ six hotels in Singapore.

We held the MTalent Search on two separate days, 10 March and 5 May, at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.  In total, 45 candidates were invited to this unique interview selection. As part of the assessment, the candidates had to go through two rounds of activities before the panel interviews with each hotel on the same day.

The first activity was a task which applicants had to complete as a team assessing them on their behaviour and leadership qualities.  This is then followed by the 2nd activity which was to assess them on their quick thinking, creativity and conversational skills.

The candidates were graded by the total number of points they have scored in both activities.  With this information, the final panel of interviewers (the General Manager and management team of each hotel) then interviewed the candidates to assess if they are the right fit.

As part of the final assessment, an interview is conducted with each hotel’s management team to see if they are a right fit, just like this interview with General Manager Mr Richard Ong (looking up) and his team from Orchard Hotel.

Feedback by the candidates has been encouraging!  About 99% of them enjoyed the new hiring concept, having found it interactive and interesting. The candidates also mentioned that the concept was an unexpected yet refreshing experience compared to normal interviews.  They were able to mingle with the rest of the candidates and staff of Millennium Hotels and Resorts, while gaining advice and valuable information at the same time.

A total of 16 candidates were successful in these MTalent Search!  We couldn’t have done this without the support of all the General Managers, Heads of Departments and the HR Teams.

Team activities involving the M&C team are incorporated as part of MTalent Search’s new hiring concept, allowing for mutual interaction, observation and feedback on the behaviour and leadership qualities of the candidates.
