Apart from monetary donations, CDL has always believed in engaging stakeholders through active employee volunteerism to complement philanthropic giving and deliver greater impact. Since 1999, CDL’s dedicated employee volunteer arm, City Sunshine Club (CSC), has been reaching out to help the less fortunate and underprivileged.

Initiatives organised by CSC include food and necessities distribution to elderly beneficiaries living in one-room rental flats, and a befriending programme, CDL’s Befriendees, through which CSC volunteers spread warmth to the elderly by organising celebratory outings and luncheons.

This year’s CDL’s Befriendees’ annual luncheon was held at M Hotel Singapore on 3 June 2017, organised for the elderly from Indus Road, Chai Chee Road and Jalan Kukoh that CSC volunteers have befriended.

About 20 CDL staff volunteers together with CSC advisors, served lunch to the elderly and performed evergreen songs which many of the elderly could sing along to. Other than an exciting Bingo game, there was also a special segment for Mdm Lee Ah Hoong, an elderly resident from Jalan Kukoh who celebrated her 90th birthday on that day.
