The festive spirit hit high gear on 11 December 2019 at Arc Children’s Centre (ARC) when 22 volunteers from City Sunshine Club (CSC), CDL’s employee volunteer platform, organised a Christmas party for some 59 children.

It was a magical and fun-filled afternoon as the CSC volunteers donned Christmas headwear and filled the centre with delicious food and drinks, hymns of Christmas carols and their warm hearts. The party included interactive activities such as a canvas art session and DIY percussion instruments made of recycled materials. Laughter and joy overwhelmed the children as they got together to present musical performances using the self-made percussion instruments. The children were treated to a surprise visit by Santa Claus, as the volunteers carolled popular Christmas tunes such as Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.

Smiles on the children’s faces widened as CDL Group General Manager Mr Chia Ngiang Hong and CDL Group Chief Strategy Officer Mr Kwek Eik Sheng distributed the much-awaited Christmas gifts. With soaring festive cheer, celebrations ended with the singing of We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

ARC is an independent charity centre dedicated to nurturing and enriching the lives of children with serious illnesses, in a joyful and healthy environment. Since July 2011, the centre has helped over 150 children with cancer or a life-threatening illness and over 60 of their siblings.

Each child was presented with a Christmas gift by CDL Group General Manager Mr Chia Ngiang Hong (in white shirt) and CDL Group Chief Strategy Officer Mr Kwek Eik Sheng.

Ho ho ho! Santa Claus joined in the party with the children to spread festive joy with fun and surprises.

CSC volunteers also joined some 400 residents at the Limbang’s Christmas Block Party on 7 December 2019 to spread festive cheer. The event was jointly organised by CSC, Limbang Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC) and North West Community Development Council (NWCDC), for residents to celebrate the yuletide season and get to know their neighbours better.

The highlight of the party was the “Grant-A-Wish” segment, where CDL fulfilled the Christmas gift wishes of 85 children from less privileged families living in the Limbang area. At the party, CSC volunteers also helped to promote its children’s character-building programme planned for another year in 2020. Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance, Mr Lawrence Wong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC (Limbang), was present as the Guest-of-Honour.

CDL has been a long-time partner of NWCDC since 2005. In recognition for its sustained support for Limbang’s community initiatives, CDL was presented with the People’s Association Community Spirit Awards 2019 – Community Partnership Excellence Award in November 2019.
