Reaching Out
To Rohingya
Refugee Children

It was a fulfilling Sunday on November 25, as a team of City Sunshine Club (CSC) volunteers made their way to Johor Bahru in Malaysia in the wee hours of the morning, to bring cheer and warmth to some 87 children from the Rohingya refugee community.

It was a morning filled with games and activities for the children, and they participated with such zeal and excitement! They also sang with joyful hearts during our singalong session and tried their hand at various yoga poses during the group stretching.

The children enjoying a game where they worked as a team to use only a pair of chopsticks to separate chocolate out from a mix of beans and chocolate.

This was the first time that CSC, CDL’s staff volunteer platform, organised an overseas volunteering daytrip. It was such a rewarding experience reaching out to the Rohingya refugee children. Especially after watching the documentary ‘Human Flow’ by Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei during Refugee Awareness Week earlier in the year got me interested in the refugee crisis cause. I’m heartened to be a part of the adventurous team of CSC volunteers to get to volunteer overseas!

A happy group photo of the CSC volunteers and Rohingya refugee children.
