A certified yoga instructor, Nevine Albert, Director of PR & Marketing of Millennium Corniche Hotel, shares with Hi Life her passion for public relations and yoga.

AFTER graduating with a Master’s in Mass Communications, I started my career in Alitalia as a flight attendant. I moved on to the hospitality industry after realising that I enjoy meeting people from different cultures, nationalities and backgrounds. I enjoy socialising with people and building relationships, and this has proved quite helpful in a cosmopolitan place like Abu Dhabi.

I believe that Public Relations is in my personality. It’s something I love to do. It is a field that enables me to be in the front line building the right image for my company. I am a quick learner who is motivated and patient. No matter how big or difficult a job is, I will accept the challenge. I guess my passion has paid off.

In 2015, the President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, granted me with the title “Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy”. It is an honour the Italian government bestows on people who have made outstanding contributions to Italy abroad through various activities.

At a ceremony held in the Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi hosted by then Italian Ambassador H.E. Giorgio Starace, the award was presented in recognition of my continuous efforts and work to promote cultural and commercial relations with the Republic of Italy. Ambassador Starace retraced the history of collaboration between me and the Italian community in the UAE in his congratulatory speech and expressed his country’s appreciation for fostering Italian/Emirati relations. Being conferred the Cavaliere dell’ Ordine della Stella D’Italia is such a special and a great symbol to me. I am both honoured and grateful for this award, which will act as a roadmap in my journey towards strengthening ties between Italy and the UAE.

Building character through experiences

I’m a strong believer of never accepting failure. Henry Ford put it most aptly that “Life is a series of experiences, each of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realise this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grief which we endure help us in our marching onward.” It is with this determination that I have achieved my success in life.

Despite my busy schedule, I put aside time to do yoga. I have been practicing yoga for the past 20 years and its benefits are numerous. It helps me reduce stress and discomfort,  sleep better, keep a healthy weight, ease pain, gain flexibility and tone muscles. In fact, I am so passionate about yoga that I am now a certified yoga teacher.
