In the past month, Beijing Riviera has organised several activities to engage with both staff and residents.

In mid-July, Riviera Country Club arranged a CPR training session, led by long-term resident Ms Ilka Oberlaender. Ms Oberlaender was a paramedic in Germany and used her expertise to provide training to the staff, to help them be better prepared in an emergency situation. The seven participants, comprising lifeguards and supervisors, enjoyed the session, which covered what to do in a variety of situations, with role playing to help ensure better understanding. There are also plans to conduct the CPR training regularly every three months, so staff can stay up to date with their life-saving skills.

The training session also included role playing, to help the team better understand what actions to take in case of an emergency.

While the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship took place in another continent, Riviera Country Club brought the action closer to residents with match screenings. It took place from 11 June to 11 July this year, after postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With 51 matches played, this year’s championship saw a nerve-wrecking final between Italy and England that ended 1-1 after extra time, with Italy finally winning 3-2 on penalties.

All eyes on the early match between England and Germany, which ended 2-0 and saw England move on to the next round.

Through the matches screen, there was cheering, dancing, jumping, launching and even crying, but one resounding factor was the strong sense of community and family. Even as residents saw their favourite teams win or lose, everyone still had fun and enjoyed the time spent watching the matches together.
