China Yuchai, through its main operating subsidiary Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited (GYMCL), announced four new energy powertrain systems in seven new energy-saving products for medium- and heavy-duty applications.

The new energy powertrain systems introduced include an integrated generator-type engine powertrain, eCVT (electronic continuously variable transmission) power-split hybrid powertrain, integrated electrically-driven axle powertrain, and fuel cell system, which have higher fuel-saving ratios, endurance mileage, hydrogen conversion efficiency and longer service life than conventional systems. A powertrain is a system that comprises the main components, including the engine and transmission, that generates power for automobiles.

The launch of these new products also marks China Yuchai’s successful foray into more sustainable new-energy systems, ahead of China’s implementation of energy conservation and emission reduction policies for commercial vehicles in 2020.

At the launch, China Yuchai also signed cooperation agreements with nine original equipment manufacturers, including Shaanxi Automobile, Dongfeng Motor, and Shanghai Sunlong, for product development.

GYMCL Chairman Mr Yan Ping said, “The future of powertrain systems will be a seamless integration of engine and electric technologies that is not only cost-effective, but also energy-saving. Our new products will focus on medium- and heavy-duty applications, and gradually expand into light-duty markets.”

China Yuchai President Mr Hoh Weng Ming added, “With the successful roll-out of our China’s National VI engine product portfolio, we are once again introducing products for the future. This opens a new chapter as we implement a two-pronged product strategy. With the new strategy and product roadmap, we are embracing two emerging trends at the same time: transition from traditional engine design and production to full powertrain solutions including new energy powertrains, and transition from the domestic market to international markets.”
