To create a cleaner community and better atmosphere in the neighbourhood, seven Millennium Harbourview Xiamen staff volunteered and headed out to clear the streets of cigarette butts, which has been found to be the most common pollutant in many cities.

Led by Vice Chairman and Owner’s Representative Ms Yu Hong Ling, the hotel team joined seven other community partners in the clean-up activity launched by China City Mall and Plogging Haigui. ‘Plogging’ is a portmanteau of ‘jogging’ and the Swedish phrase ‘plocka upp’, meaning ‘pick up’ and used to describe the activity of joggers picking up litter while exercising.

Armed with cleaning tools, the team headed to Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street (中山路步行街), to rid of the city’s most famous pedestrian street of cigarette butts. The team collected seven plastic bottles worth of cigarette butts littered on the ground, and not only helped to create a clean environment for locals and tourists, but also raised awareness against littering.
